The UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting in St Petersburg has decided to place the Liverpool World Heritage Site on the List of World Heritage in Danger. This follows a joint UNESCO/ICOMOS Reactive Monitoring Mission in November 2011 to consider the Liverpool Waters Scheme. The resulting State of Conservation report provided a strong draft recommendation to ‘inscribe Liverpool – Maritime Mercantile City (United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) on the List of World Heritage in Danger with the possibility of deletion of the property from the World Heritage List, should the current project be approved and implemented’.
