US ICOMOS is running an international symposium on the evolution of historic urban centres, and how they provide inspiration for the future of cities round the world.  This follows the 35th UNESCO General Conference adoption in 2011 of the 'Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape', which encouraged a landscape approach to the study and conservation of cities within their broader urban contexts and geographical settings.  The 2013 symposium will take place from 2-4 May 2013 in Savannah, Georgia, USA.  It will be co-hosted by the Savannah College of Art and Design.  US ICOMOS is inviting poster and paper proposals for the symposium that examine the challenges in striking a balance between the potential of historic cities for future wealth creation and innovation, with the fragile nature of a city's heritage, integrity and sense of place. Information on submitting abstracts here, general information here.  Deadline for proposals is 15 November 2012.
