The campaign spearheaded by the Heritage Alliance to persuade the government to reconsider its Budget proposal to remove zero rating of VAT on approved alterations to listed buildings (the 'heritage tax') has ended in defeat.  Despite strong opposition and challenges to the evidence for taking the decision, the government refused to change its policy.  Full details are on the Heritage Alliance website.
